Hysteria Writing Competition July 2025 Update

Here at Hysteria HQ, July is spent mostly with the reading teams reviewing the entries. This is time-consuming and exciting because it’s impossible to predict what will unfold on the computer screen next. I’ve already been told there are quite a few stand-out entries which I’m looking forward to reading myself when they make their way into my hands.

The Reluctant Reaper

Last year, Denarii Peters, winner of the 2023 Short Story Category, published her first collection of stories with Crystal Clear Books. And, this year on 31st July, the first novel in her brand new Ross Ferris trilogy was published too.

18th-century highwayman Ross Ferris met his end at his favourite Cornish inn, and his soul was condemned to the flames of Hell. When an unexpected turn of events earns him a reprieve from the demons stoking the fires, he is recruited as a Reaper, Third Class. In this first novel of her Ross Ferris trilogy, Denarii takes you on a journey into an underworld unlike anything you could have imagined.

Out of Eden
